Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lancers Offensive Explosion Fuels Convincing Win

GOSHEN, Ind. - Grace College's soccer team collected an important win against Goshen on Saturday night, 5-0.

Grace's offensive prowess was on display from the opening kick. The Lancers had four shots in the first six minutes of action, which included a headed attempt from Eric Favere that went high of goal.

The Maple Leafs were whistled for a pair of hard fouls and a yellow card as the Lancers stressed the Goshen defense with relentless pressure.

Five more shots were tried by the Lancers over the next ten minutes before being awarded a penalty kick after a collision in the box.

Favere was tabbed to take the shot for the Lancers and he calmly buried the shot to give Grace the first marker of the game halfway through the first half.

Just five minutes later the Lancers struck again. This time it was Henrique Pereira who was set up by Sebastian Lozano to double Grace's lead in the 27th minute.

The Maple Leafs continued to be aggressive in their tackles, racking up a second yellow card and a straight red card with 10:28 remaining in the opening half.

Playing with a man advantage, the Lancers closed out the half with another flurry of chances. Vasco Tavares had the best chance of the bunch with a try that forced a save from the goalkeeper.

Grace went into the break with a 2-0 lead, out shooting Goshen 16-1 before the intermission.

The Lancers wasted little time to extend their lead in the second half. In the second minute, a cross from Henrique Pereira was deflected into the net for an own goal, giving Grace a 3-0 lead.

Favere added a brace in the 62nd minute. His shot, after a pass from Josh Cruz, nestled inside the post for his second of the game.

Grace continued to pressure the Maple Leafs over the next 20 minutes, accumulating corner kicks and shot attempts in that span.

In the closing minutes of the game, Cruz put the exclamation point on the night when he touched the ball around the goalkeeper and slotted it into the back of the net with three minutes remaining to make it 5-0.

The Lancers outshot the Maple Leafs 23-2 on the night, with Teague Misner and Favere accounting for ten of those shots. Cruz accounted for four shots, one goal and one assist.

With two regular season games remaining, Grace will head to Mount Vernon for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Oct. 24.
