Game Recap: Baseball |

Grace tripped up by Taylor

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Grace's baseball team opened up the home portion of the conference season with a doubleheader against No. 9 Taylor on Saturday at Tom  Roy - UPI Park.

The final day of the series went to the Trojans 12-0 and 5-1.

The opening game went scoreless for the first two innings before the Taylor bats came alive in the third. The four-run inning gave the Trojans the upper hand.

The home team picked up a couple of baserunners in the early innings, though the offense was held in check overall.

The Trojans picked up a run in the fifth with the scoreline holding steady until the seventh inning when a crooked number put the game out of reach.

Grant Rojek finished the game with two hits.

The second game of the day was tightly contested most of the way with Grace holding an early 1-0 into the third inning.

The Lancers had two runners aboard in the first when Cayden Calloway lifted a sacrifice fly to center to bring home Carter Stogsdill.

Taylor scored the tying run in the third and edged ahead an inning later with a four-run fourth.

Both teams were held at bay the rest of the way.

The Lancers had at least one runner reach base safely in each of the final three innings. Each time, however, the Trojans were able to find the necessary outs to thwart any rally.

Preston Van Til and Noah Dininger combined to pitch three scoreless frames in relief with two of them being 1-2-3 innings.

Calloway provided one hit and one RBI, while Stogsdill finished with one hit and one run.

Grace will continue conference play with a four-game series against Spring Arbor March 6-7 at Tom  Roy - UPI Park. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
