WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace College's softball team dropped a pair of hard fought contests to the Huntington Foresters on Saturday afternoon.
The Lancers (6-14, 0-6 Crossroads League) led nearly the entire game in the opener but ultimately fell 3-2 in extra innings. Grace struggled to produce offense in game two, falling 8-0.
Sami Lemler led the game off with a lead off single and was moved over to second after the next batter.
Emma Hiss then singled to center and her aggressive base running allowed Lemer to score from first on the play pushing Grace ahead 1-0.
Hiss also got the start in the circle and after a lead off walk retired the next three batters, including two by strikeout to keep the Lancers ahead.
In the bottom of the second inning the Foresters got runners on the corners with two outs but a fly ball ended the threat.
Hiss started the fourth inning with a walk and after
Gabi Eberhart  stole second after she was subbed in as a pinch runner. Grace was unable to score her from scoring position as the game remained 1-0 in favor of the Lancers.
Huntington finally crossed a run in the fifth inning after stringing together a pair of hits and executed a double steal to plate the tying run. Grace quickly responded with a run of their own in the next frame.
Lemur reached for the second time of the game and
Avery Sleethed brought her around to score with a double to deep left field.
Grace led 2-1 with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning when a sacrifice fly for Huntington tied the game at two and forced extra innings.
Grace was unable to produce a run in their turn at the plate in the extra frame, after loading the bases in the bottom of the frame Huntington was able to beat the throw home on an infield hit for the walk off 3-2 victory.
Hiss got the start in the circle and struck out five while allowing just seven hits. Hiss was also a weapon at the plate with two and reaching base four times. Lemer and Sleeth also each reached base multiple times.
In game two Grace fell behind early or were unable to catch up with the Foresters offense.
In the opening inning Lemler was advanced to scoring position with one out but was left stranded as Huntington escaped the inning unscathed.
The game was blown open by the Foresters in the second inning with a two-out rally. The first two batters were retired before a pair of walks gave Huntington new life. The Foresters took advantage of the free passes and ended up scoring four runs in the frame to take a convincing 4-0 lead.
Huntington added two more runs to their total in the third inning as Grace's offense remained quiet over the middle frames.
Halle Nett tripled in the fifth frame and Grace had two players reach base in the sixth but Grace remained scoreless. Huntington plated two more runs in the bottom of the inning to secure the 8-0 win.
Molly Jones, Hiss and Nett all had hits for Grace in the contest.
The Lancers next scheduled game is on Tuesday at 3 P.M. against St. Francis.
