KOKOMO, Ind. - Grace College's softball team dropped Thursday afternoon's double header to Indiana Wesleyan.
The games took place in Kokomo after Indiana Wesleyan's fields were deemed unfit to play due to recent weather in the area. Grace (7-25, 1-17 Crossroads League) struggled to produce offense during the neutral site affair, losing 8-1 and 16-0.
The Lancers and Wildcats (20-8, 13-3 CL) scattered four hits across the first two innings but the game remained scoreless entering the home-half of the third frame.
IWU took average of their speed on the base paths with a pair of stolen bases aiding the Wildcats to a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead.
Grace cut the lead in half in the next frame with a pair of extra-base hits.
Sage Ladig had a two-out double and scored when
Lauren Kirkpatrick had the Lancers' second consecutive double to pull within a run. The Wildcats answered back with a run in the bottom of the frame to reestablish their two-run lead.
Both teams went scoreless in the fifth but IWU poured in five runs in the sixth inning to put the score at its final resting point at 8-1.
In game two the Lancers would have a lead off hit in each of the first three innings but they proved to be the only hits of the contest for the Lancers.
The Wildcats scored runs that matched the inning number in the first, second and third innings before exploding for 10 runs in the fourth frame.
Marly Coan had two hits in game two while Ladig had hits in both games.
Allie Furches,
Paige McCorkle and
Emme Meyering also had hits.
The Lancers will play two doubleheaders this week with games against Bethel on Friday and Goshen on Saturday.
