WARSAW, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team came up short against league-leader No. 11 Marian on Tuesday afternoon at the Warsaw Racquet Club. A chilly morning moved the match indoors, where the Knights picked up the win 6-1.
Grace started the day off with a win at No. 1 doubles to put pressure on Marian.
Jimena Ramirez and
Faith Valentine put together a strong effort to win their duel on court one 6-2. Despite losing on court one, the Knights finished strong by taking No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the overall point.Â
The Knights scored the next three points from the No. 2-4 slots in the lineup to get the clinching point of the match.Â
Jimena Ramirez dropped the first set in her matchup at No. 1 doubles, but she regained control of the court by getting the equalizer in the set to force a tiebreaker. She battled tough and came out on top 10-5 to secure Grace's point in the match.
Marian picked up the last two available points to finish the match.
Lauren Harris nearly took the first set in her match, but fell 7-5, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
Grace will continue league play on Thursday April 9 at the Don Cramer Tennis Courts. First serve against Saint Francis is set for 2 p.m.
