Lancers win two more in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Grace's volleyball team racked up two more wins in a stellar finale at the Onset Invitational.

The Lancers downed Southeastern 3-1 and swept Brescia on Saturday, improving to 6-2 on the season.

To kick off the day, Grace used a balanced offense and a tight defense to knock off the Fire. Grace had six players with at least six kills and held the Fire to a .053 hitting percentage.

The Lancers were lethal in the opening set, pounding out 13 kills on just one error in a 25-14 rout.

The Fire countered with a narrow three-point win in the second set to even the match.

The third set proved to be pivotal. Grace fell behind early 6-2 but recovered quickly with a 5-0 spurt.

The teams traded small runs, but Grace still found itself in a 16-12 hole. A 5-1 run brought the Lancers to within one, but SEU responded with two points to lead 21-18.

Grace then flipped the script for good with a massive 6-0 run, sparked by two kills from Callie Jo Celichowski. An attack error by the Fire gave Grace the 25-23 win.

The fourth set began evenly. A 6-1 run by Grace midway into the set gave the Lancers breathing room, and Grace used that to win by seven and clinch the four-set victory.

Anna Elkin had a double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs, and Carsyn Witt also had one with 22 assists and 19 digs.

Molly Hofmann tallied nine kills and four block assists, Savannah Clawson had nine kills, Leah Henderson added eight kills and Celichowski notched 7 kills, 1 solo block and 2 block assists.

Abby Leffring produced 2 solo blocks and 3 block assists to go along with six kills, Olivia Martinez posted 21 digs, Reagan Owens had 13 digs, and Reese McCutchan had 20 assists, 9 digs and 2 aces.

In the tournament finale, Grace's offense found little resistance against Brescia. As a team, the Lancers hit 41 kills on a .243 percentage.

The Lancers rolled to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-17 sweep to win their third match of the weekend.

Celichowski had nine kills on 12 swings (.667 percentage), and Emily Uhlmann racked up 22 assists, 8 digs and 6 service aces.

Leffring (8 kills, 1 solo block, 2 block assists), Levyn Snow (6 kills), Clawson (6 kills) and Hofmann (5 kills) were key offensive contributors.

The Lancers now turn their attention to their home opener on Wednesday. Grace will welcome St. Francis to the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center on Wednesday at 7 p.m., also marking the start of the Crossroads League season.
