Amy Abbitt is entering her fifth year on the Lady Lancers' coaching staff. Abbitt graduated from Grace in 2010 and soon after joined the coaching staff as the recruiting coordinator.
Abbitt is a Warsaw, Ind., native and was a two-sport athlete for the Warsaw Tigers. In her four years she helped lead her team to back-to-back appearances in the semi-states for soccer and one trip to the state finals with the basketball team.
Abbitt’s four years as a Lady Lancer were spent as an anchor and leader in the midfield. Her statistics rank her among the top players in program history: she graduated as No. 8 all-time in career goals scored (18), seventh in career assists (11) and eighth in career points (47). In her four years Abbitt was able to captain the team to noticeable improvement. During her senior year, Grace finished 9-0 in the nonconference play and 4-3-1 in conference.
She then helped lead Grace to the NCCAA National Championships in Kissimmee, Fla. In the final game of her career, Abbitt played one of her best games as she scored two goals to bring the team back from a two-goal deficit and end the season with a 14-6-3 record.
“Amy’s passion to see this program at its pinnacle is pictured in her literally playing out of her Predators her senior season in the national tournament and demonstrated in her consistency in her staff position now. I am pleased that Bitty serves on staff,” said head coach Michael Voss.
Amy’s hard work and dedication to the team and program has not changed, the roles are now just different. Her belief in the team’s mission to serve Christ through the avenue of soccer is still as strong as she now builds in the lives of the younger women on the team and in the future Lady Lancers.
Amy currently lives in Winona Lake, Ind., and is a special education teacher at Lincoln Elementary in Warsaw.
