Herschberger was a four-sport athlete at Fairfield when she played volleyball, basketball, tennis and track. She excelled on the volleyball court, earning MVP honors twice and All-Conference honors three times.

She went on to attend one year at Indiana University (Bloomington) where she played club volleyball.
