ST. CATHARINE, Ky. – No. 8 Grace suffered its first defeat of the season in overtime on Saturday, falling 81-73 on the road to St. Catharine.

The Lancers (1-1) were held scoreless in the extra period, going 0-for-9 from the field and missing all six of their 3-pointers in overtime.

The Patriots (1-1), on the other hand, made 3-of-5 shots from the field and outrebounded Grace 9-3 after regulation.

Grace's offense sputtered at the beginning of the game as they fell behind 13-1 after five minutes of play.

The Lancers battled back and tied the game at 25-25 before faltering to end the half. St. Catharine drilled five 3-pointers in the final six minutes of the first half and opened up a 42-29 lead at the break.

Grace immediately went to work on their deficit in the second half with an 18-5 run. A pair of 3-pointers from Tannan Peters and two free throws from Caleb Featherston eventually tied the game at 47-47 with 15:19 to play.

St. Catharine regained the lead on the next possession and took a seven-point lead with 6:32 remaining. Grace charged back into contention and tied the score at 69 apiece.

The teams traded buckets over the final three minutes until the Patriots claimed a 73-71 lead with less than two minutes left.

Elliot Smith then tied the game for Grace with a basket with 1:11 left for the final basket in regulation.

Grace's offense in overtime went ice-cold as they failed to make a shot attempt in nine tries to allow the Patriots to ease away for an eight-point win.

Smith led Grace's offense with 20 points, including five made 3-pointers to go along with five steals. Greg Miller tallied a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Bruce Grimm Jr. added 17 points and five assists.

Peters reached double figures with 11 points, and freshman Kyle Fillman chipped in six points and six rebounds off the bench.

The Lancers will resume action next weekend for their annual KCCCF Optimist Classic at the Orthopaedic Capital Center. Grace will play Missouri Baptist on Friday at 8 p.m. before facing NAIA Division I No. 4 Robert Morris on Saturday at 4 p.m.
