HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Grace's women's basketball team dropped a 75-52 game to Crossroads League opponent Huntington on Saturday.
The Lady Lancers (7-3; 1-2 CL) allowed Huntington to hit nearly 60 percent of their field goals as the Foresters (7-2; 2-1 CL) had an assist on 24 of their 29 made shots.
“Our lack of defensive focus was the issue. Our heart was in our offense, and when it doesn't flow, we lose focus on our defense,” said Grace head coach Scott Blum. “We lacked execution on defense giving up open jump shots. We need better effort on the defensive side of the ball before we can call ourselves a great team. We will refocus and get to work on Monday.”
Grace was efficient on the offensive side of the floor in the first half. The Lady Lancers made all three of their 3-point attempts and went 12-of-24 from the field.
But Huntington's offense was even more potent as they nailed 60 percent of their shots in the opening half, taking a 40-29 lead into the halftime break.
The Foresters continued to make shots after halftime, as well, as they sank 58 percent of their field goals in the game overall.
Grace struggled in protecting the basketball as 24 turnovers hampered their cause.
Allison Kauffman was the only Lady Lancer in double figures with 14 points and six boards on 6-of-9 shooting. Emily Bidwell and Gabby Bryant added seven points, and Sarah Feasby scored eight points in 18 minutes off the bench.
The Lady Lancers will return to action on Saturday with a road game at IU-Northwest.
