Goal from Evans downs No. 16 Trinity Christian

Box Score

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – A goal from senior Jocelyn Evans was all Grace needed to separate itself from No. 16 Trinity Christian on Saturday.

The Lady Lancers (4-0-1) pulled off the upset despite enduring a double overtime match less than 24 hours before their clash with Trinity Christian.

Grace scored the only goal of the game in the 11th minute of action. Mallory Rondeau maneuvered past a defender along the sideline and slotted a ball to Evans, who finished past the Trolls' (1-3-1) goalkeeper.

“Trinity was a tough opponent today. They were disciplined, physical and are consistently good each year,” said Grace head coach Michael Voss. “The Grace women showed us again their discipline and drive to play possession futbol.”

After being outshot 6-4 in the first half, Grace's offense took over in the final 45 minutes. Their strong possession resulted in multiple goal-scoring opportunities, but the Lady Lancers were not able to find their insurance goal in a rainy second half.

Overall for the second half, Grace held a 7-1 advantage in shots taken.

“Two very good and well-rested opponents in less than 24 hours was a real test for any team,” Voss said. “We had very good composure and played intelligently for 90 minutes.”

Holly Bennett led all players with four shots and two shots on goal, and Evans and Kristin Yocum each tallied two shots.

Carmen Barnhill earned the shutout in goal for Grace after making three saves in 90 minutes.

The Lady Lancers continue action next weekend with a pair of home matches against Purdue Calumet on Friday and Siena Heights on Saturday. Listen to both games live here.
