LIMA, Ohio – The Grace men's soccer team could not overcome a first-half goal from Northwestern Ohio as the Lancers fell 1-0 on Saturday.
The Lancers (4-2) were shut out for the first time in the 2012 season as the Racers (2-3) held on for the win.
Northwestern Ohio's goal was a strike from Dominic Riedel in the 32nd minute of play, and neither team managed to score after that point.
The Racers outshot the Lancers 8-2 in a physical first half of action. UNOH also picked up three yellow cards in the first half compared to one for Grace.
The Lancers picked up the offensive pressure after halftime by tallying three shots and the only corner kick for either team in the second half.
The Racers' defense proved up to the task on Saturday, however.
Shane Barthuly recorded three shots and two shots on goal, which was tied for the most in the match.
Goalkeeper Collin Cone surrendered one goal in 90 minutes. He saved four shots for Grace.
After scoring 18 goals in Grace's first four games of the season, the Lancers have scored once in their last two games – both of which were losses.
The Lancers return to Miller Field for a pair of home matches next week. Grace plays Indiana Tech on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before kicking off the Crossroads League schedule against Huntington on Saturday at 2 p.m.
