SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Grace's women's soccer team was unable to get its offense into rhythm in the team's 2-0 loss to Westmont (Calif.) on Saturday.
The Lady Lancers yielded two long-range goals from the Warriors (1-0) in the first half.
"The women are moving in the right direction. Our shape was much better, and we were pretty organized," said head coach Michael Voss. "We created several opportunities, and yet we still need a bit more to find the net. This was a very productive trip. We're going to continue making progress."
Both of Westmont's goals came from approximately 30 yards away from Grace's net as Alison Hensley was responsible for each strike.
The Lady Lancers (0-2) mustered three shots overall in the match with Kaitlan Wiles, Holly Bennett and Lauren Becker each shooting once. Westmont, who finished the 2012 season as the No. 19-ranked team in the NAIA, outshot Grace 16-3 in the match.
Carmen Barnhill recorded seven saves in goal for the Lady Lancers.
Grace will return to Indiana next week for its first two home matches of the season. The Lady Lancers will welcome Judson to Miller Field on Thursday at 4 p.m. They will then host the Women's National Team of Haiti for a rematch of last year's historic exhibition on Saturday at 4 p.m.
