ELGIN, Ill. – Grace's men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season after yielding three early goals to Judson.
The Lancers surrendered three goals in the first 16 minutes of play and were unable to recover from their early deficit in a 3-1 defeat.
"This was a good matchup for us today, and we failed to impose our will early," said Grace head coach Matt Hotchkin. "I knew today would be tough. Judson has a good team and is well-coached. We didn't approach the game with the right level of intensity which was our mistake."
Grace racked up 19 shots attempts in the match but was only able to convert a goal in the 82nd minute. Jonathan Sands placed his shot past Judson's goalkeeper after a corner kick, but it was too little, too late for Grace.
The Lancers outshot Judson 11-6 in the second half and 19-17 overall. Grace also recorded all seven corner kicks in the match.
"The good news from today is we can now rest up and heal our injuries," Hotchkin continued. "Some of our younger players got great minutes and experience this weekend, and this will pay off as we grow this season."
Dylan Andersen and Steven Fiema led Grace's offense with five shots apiece, and Andersen led all players with three shots on goal. Nine different Lancers tallied shots for the Lancers.
Grace has a lengthy break before their next match on Sept. 4 when they'll travel to Michigan to play Marygrove.
