WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Freshmen earned over half of Grace's points as the women's tennis team won 6-3 over Goshen on Saturday.
Grace's first-year players Jayna Huber, Gabrielle Lawrence, Mariah Zumbrun and Katie Etter produced four points to spark the Lady Lancers' Crossroads League victory.
Huber and Lawrence teamed up at No. 2 doubles for a thrilling 9-7 win, and Sarah Hinkel and Esther Smith gave Grace its second doubles' point at No. 3 doubles.
Hinkel (6-0, 6-0) at No. 4 singles and Lawrence (6-1, 6-0) at No. 5 had the quickest singles' wins for the Lady Lancers (2-4; 2-3 CL) on Saturday.
Zumbrun claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles, and Etter posted a two-set win against her opponent at No. 6 singles as well.
The Lady Lancers will conclude the regular season next week with a trio of road matches. Grace will play Taylor on Monday, Huntington on Tuesday and Marian on Thursday.
