UPLAND, Ind. – Freshman Jayna Huber earned Grace's sole point on Monday at Taylor in her first collegiate match at No. 1 singles.
Huber upended the Trojans' top singles' player in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7, as the Lady Lancers fell 8-1 in Crossroads League action.
The Trojans (7-2; 6-2 CL) picked up an early advantage by winning all three doubles' matches. Gabrielle Lawrence and Katie Etter at No. 2 doubles and Sarah Hinkel/Esther Smith at No. 3 doubles both lost 8-2.
Etter also battled at No. 5 singles before ultimately falling 6-1, 6-4.
Huber played her first match as Grace's No. 1 singles player as Kristin Cassidy was unable to compete on Monday.
"Today we didn't have our leader [Cassidy], and our inexperience showed. Jayna Huber did step up to the challenge to win at the number one spot," said head coach Scott Moore. "We are a little roughed up right now with injuries, but the girls continue to improve. There is no doubt in my mind that once the girls get healthy and are playing in the right positions, they are going to win a lot of matches."
The Lady Lancers (2-5; 2-4 CL) will wrap up the regular season with road matches at Huntington on Tuesday and at Marian on Thursday.
