Grace has little trouble with St. Francis on the road

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Grace's men's tennis team made short work of St. Francis in Crossroads League competition on Friday, sweeping the Cougars 9-0.

The Lancers (2-1; 2-0 CL) continued their perfect start to the league season, setting up tomorrow's showdown with rival Indiana Wesleyan.

"This was a solid win for us up and down the lineup. I'm proud of our consistent effort throughout the day," said Grace coach Larry Schuh. "Aaron Blevins needed rest, so half of our lineup moved up a slot, so having Gabe [Vervynckt] produce for us at 6's was great."

Grace was strong in the opening doubles' matches, dropping just one game apiece at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Aaron Blevins and Daniel Sanchez battled out to an 8-6 win at the top doubles' position.

Jose Marval, Jacob Stump and Gabe Vervynckt were particularly strong in their singles' matches, and Michael Humphrey won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

Grace will travel to Marion, Ind., to play a crucial league match with Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday at 11 a.m.
