Volleyball handles Spring Arbor in three sets

 

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Grace's volleyball team dominated Spring Arbor on Wednesday, sweeping the Cougars in convincing fashion.

The Lady Lancers (17-5, 8-2 Crossroads League) maintained second place in the league standings with the win and now trail league-leading Indiana Wesleyan by just one game.

Grace won Wednesday night's match 25-12, 25-19 and 25-12 at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.

Setter Ellie Harp led a dynamic attack for the Lady Lancers as Grace hit at a .383 percentage for the match. Grace had 12 kills without an attacking error in the first set and upped that mark with 13 kills and no errors in the third set. Harp finished with 28 assists, 5 kills, 3 aces, 3 digs and 4 block assists for the match.

Grace Woolsey had a remarkable eight kills on nine attacks for an attacking percentage of .889 while also tallying four block assists. Kaitlin Kerrigan led all players with nine kills, and Tori Bontrager had three aces and five kills on an .833 percentage. Megan Johnson also tallied seven kills.

Defensively, Hannah Clemmons led Grace with 12 digs, Jessica Scherb and Annie Salazar added seven digs, and Sara Miller chipped in five more. The Cougars (1-18, 0-10 CL) were held to a .096 hitting percentage in the match, recording eight fewer kills.

Grace continues action on Oct. 8 with a road match at St. Francis. The Lady Lancers will then play a tournament at Davenport University from Oct. 10-11. Grace's next home game is against rival Taylor on Oct. 15.
