INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Niko Read's 21 points led Grace's men's basketball team in an exhibition game at NCAA Div. II Indianapolis on Wednesday night.
The contest counted as a regular-season game for the Greyhounds and an exhibition for the Lancers.
Grace stunned the home Greyhounds out of the gate, claiming an 11-8 advantage after six minutes of play. Read buried a trio of 3-pointers for Grace in the early minutes.
But UIndy flexed its muscle with a decisive 21-0 run that changed the game for good. Read seemed to be the only Lancer who didn't struggle with his shot in the first half as Grace made just 22 percent from the floor. The Greyhounds were ahead 40-24 at the break.
The second half was much more competitive. UIndy outscored Grace by just four points, but the Lancers were unable to slow down the Greyhounds' attack. The Greyhounds had their way in the paint, outscoring Grace 46-19 down low and holding a plus-12 advantage in rebounds.
Read drilled 7-of-11 from the 3-point line in the exhibition defeat for Grace, and Logan Irwin added 10 points and seven assists. Caleb Featherston scored 13 points before fouling out, Brandon Vanderhegghen had seven points, and Kyle Fillman chipped in with six.
The Lancers will host the annual Bennigan's Terry Polston Hoops for Hope this weekend, beginning with a matchup with Grace Bible on Friday at 8 p.m. Find out more at the tournament central here.
