Men’s Tennis sweeps St. Francis

WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Lancers' men's tennis team earned a convincing 9-0 victory over St. Francis on Tuesday at Miller Field.

Grace continued its march toward defending its Crossroads League crown with a second straight sweep to kick off the season.

Daniel Sanchez and Jose Marval paced the Lancers (2-0, 2-0 CL) from the top, winning 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Sanchez only dropped three sets at No. 1 singles, and Marval battled out a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 2.

Ethan Grove and Jacob Stump won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, and Ricardo Bedon and Gabe Vervynckt earned an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

Stump was spotless at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-0), Grove was nearly as perfect with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4, Vervynckt won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5, and Bedon finished 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6.

"This was a solid team performance, winning 9-0 all the while missing our No. 3 singles player [Uros Pajic]. Papi [Sanchez] continues to be a strong anchor for our team. Jose [Marval] is playing even stronger than last year. Jake, Gabe and Ricardo are all stepping up and performing at positions they would not normally play," said Grace head coach Larry Schuh. "Overall I am excited for this season. We are playing very strong now. If we can keep up our level of focus, we will have an awesome opportunity to snag a conference three-peat."

The Lancers end the week with a pair of crucial CL contests. Grace will travel to Taylor on Thursday at 4 p.m. before playing at Spring Arbor on Saturday at 1 p.m.
