CLERMONT, Fla. – Grace's softball team was three outs from starting its Florida trip with a bang against No. 23 Davenport.
But the Panthers (10-1) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull off a 4-3 comeback win.
Amanda Bowman and Allison Franklin teamed up for a strong pitching effort against Davenport, going six strong from the mound with five scattered hits and two runs allowed.
Davenport got on the board first, plating a run in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Lancers (3-2) sparked to life in response, ripping off three runs in the top of the fifth.
Brooke Shell led off the inning with a bunt single. Shell made it to third with a sacrifice bunt and a passed ball. After Clarissa Knight walked, freshman Chandler Elliott scored both runners with a two-run triple. Hannah Herbster's batted ball allowed Elliott to score to move the Lady Lancers ahead 3-1.
The Panthers pulled within a run with a home run in the sixth inning, and Davenport won the game in the seventh with two walks and a double.
Shell was 2-for-4 from the leadoff position, and Knight and Morgan Hutcheson were each 1-for-2.
Grace's second game of the day against Point Park was suspended due to heavy rain. A decision to complete the game had not been decided as of Sunday.
The Lady Lancers continue play on Monday with games against Point Park and Cornerstone.
