WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan outmuscled Grace's women's tennis team 9-0 on Tuesday at Miller Athletic Complex.
The Lady Lancers (1-4, 1-4 Crossroads League) suffered their first sweep of the season at the hand of the Wildcats (7-0, 4-0 CL).
In doubles' play, Natalia Kurkova and Molly Fitzpatrick gave IWU its best battle. The duo won three games but ultimately fell 3-8 at No. 1 doubles. The Wildcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead as the teams transitioned to singles.
Kurkova again did not back down from the league-leading Wildcats. Playing against one of the top players in the Crossroads League, Kurkova took her opponent at No. 1 singles to a third-set tiebreaker before losing.
Mariah Zumbrun won six games in a loss at No. 6 singles, Gabrielle Lawrence won three games in a loss at No. 5 singles, and Jayna Huber won one game at No. 4 singles.
"Today we played a terrific Indiana Wesleyan team, and although the score may not show it, I thought our effort was there," said Grace head coach Scott Moore. "We were right there in a lot of games, but their experience got the best of us today. We need to refocus as the girls head to ITA's this weekend."
The Lady Lancers will turn their focus to the ITA Tournament for the rest of the week.
