MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Grace's men's tennis team made short work of Bethel on Saturday.
The Lancers (5-3, 5-2 Crossroads League) swept the Pilots 9-0 on the road to snap a three-match losing streak.
The match, which was a doubleheader with the women's teams, began with singles' competition. Ricardo Bedon was the lone three-set winner at No. 4, pulling out a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (6) victory. Every other Lancer beat his Pilot opponent in straight sets.
Ethan Grove won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, and Danila Kurkulin at No. 1 and Gabe Vervynckt at No. 5 each won 7-5, 6-2. Adam Yoder claimed a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles, and Uros Pajic won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2.
The Pilots (2-9, 0-6 CL) did not fare any better in doubles' play. Kurkulin and Grove blanked their opponents 8-0 at the top doubles' position, and Pajic and Vervynckt breezed to an 8-2 win at No. 2. Adam Yoder and Caleb Yoder secured the sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 3.
The Lancers have one regular-season match remaining. Grace travels to Goshen on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Maple Leafs are one game ahead of the Lancers for second place in the CL standings.
