SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - Grace's men's soccer team was unable to muster up enough offense in a 1-0 loss at No. 22 Spring Arbor on Saturday.
The Lancers (7-6-2, 2-5 Crossroads League) were held to five shots and zero on goal, ultimately losing on a second-half goal.
The Cougars (10-3-3, 4-1-2 CL) scored the game winner in the 63rd minute.
Grace struggled with a short bench to corral Spring Arbor throughout Saturday's match. The Cougars outshot the Lancers 14-2 in the first half and 12-3 after halftime. Spring Arbor also had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The first half was scoreless despite a heavy advantage in shots for the Cougars.
In the second half, Grace came close to taking a lead. Nikola Djordjevic had a close shot that just whisked over the crossbar.
Unfortunately, Spring Arbor grabbed momentum for good with its goal midway into the half.
The Lancers' best looks for the rest of regulation came on set pieces, but Grace was unable to capitalize on any of its chances.
Jon Christensen led Grace with two shots, and Robbie Barnhill had six saves in 90 minutes as the team's goalkeeper.
The Lancers will hope to rebound on Wednesday, playing at Mt. Vernon Nazarene at 4 p.m.
