Grace powers past Cincinnati Christian

GOSHEN, Ind. - A sharpshooting night led Grace's women's basketball team to a 75-58 win over Cincinnati Christian.

The game, played at Goshen in a two-day tournament, saw the Lady Lancers (3-3) shoot 51 percent from the floor and 50 percent from beyond the arc.

Haley Richardson led all players with 17 points, hitting 8-of-12 from the floor and adding four assists.

Grace outscored the Eagles (2-5) in every quarter. Richardson started on an impressive note, scoring seven quick points to help the Lady Lancers out to a 12-3 lead.

CCU recovered to cut Grace's advantage down to 16-12 after the first quarter.

The Lady Lancers continued to hold their lead in the second quarter. A 3-pointer from Vironnica Drake just beat the halftime buzzer, lifting Grace to an eight-point edge at the midway point.

Grace started the second half with a 3-pointer from Hannah Adams to go ahead by 11, and Grace never looked back. The Lady Lancers built up a 20-point lead late in the third quarter.

CCU had one last run in its tank. The Eagles went on an 11-0 charge to chop Grace's cushion to nine at 54-45. But Drake netted four points in a minute to stop CCU's momentum. Grace cruised until the final horn to win by 17.

Grace's active defense forced CCU into 24 turnovers; Grace scored 23 points off those turnovers.

The rebounding battle was also won by Grace 34-26. Kelsie Peterson was the leading rebounder in the game with seven; she added 9 points, 3 assists and 2 steals as well.

Darian Patton produced 10 points and three assists, and Drake had nine points and four boards.

Hannah Adams hit all three of her shots and both 3-pointers for eight points, and Brooke Sugg scored nine points off the bench.

The Lady Lancers end the tournament at Goshen by taking on Southeastern at 1 p.m. Saturday.
