DAYTON, Ohio - Grace's women's basketball team clashed with NCAA Div. I Wright State on Monday.
WSU won the game 87-56. The Raiders were playing in their season opener while it was an exhibition, noncountable game for the Lady Lancers.
Kelsie Peterson was the second-leading scorer in the game. She hit four 3-pointers for 14 points, doing her damage in just 22 minutes.
Grace struggled to match the size of Wright State, giving up 50 points in the paint. WSU also enjoyed a plus-13 advantage in rebounding.
Peterson was responsible for over half of Grace's production in the opening half. The junior guard drilled 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 from the foul line to finish with a game-best 14 points.
Her last 3-pointer of the half cut WSU's advantage to 45-25 at the halftime break.
Grace settled down considerably in the second half. The Lady Lancers held WSU to 29 percent shooting in the third quarter (5-of-17).
In the fourth quarter, despite Grace substituting liberally, the Lady Lancers were only outscored 23-18.
Overall, 10 players for Grace registered a point against D1 competition. Myriah Hoffman and Catherine Weaver each scored eight points off the bench, and Hoffman also collected six rebounds.
Chloe Pridgen produced five points and six boards, Pam Miller had four points and four rebounds, and Brooke Sugg added four points and three assists.
Vironnica Drake registered 4 points, a team-high 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals, and Haley Richardson added five points and three boards.
Monday's affair is one of two NCAA D1 experiences for Grace this winter. The Lady Lancers will also play at Valparaiso University on Dec. 10.
Grace's week will end on Friday and Saturday at home for the annual Wyndham Garden Terry Polston Hoops for Hope. Grace will take on Silver Lake on Friday at 6 p.m. and Pikeville on Saturday at 2 p.m.
