Baseball takes on Webber, No. 2 St. Thomas

VERO BEACH, Fla. - Grace's baseball team continued its Spring Break trip with games against No. 2 St. Thomas and Webber International.

The Lancers scored three runs in each game but were unable to slow down their opposition in either outing.

Against St. Thomas on Monday, the Bobcats (11-9) started the game with 15 unanswered runs.

The Lancers (4-5) got on the board in the third inning, plating three runs off RBIs by Austin Baker, Scottie Clark and CJ Swartz. But Grace was unable to keep up with St. Thomas's offense, eventually falling 27-3.

Swartz batted 1-for-2 with a walk, and Cameron Maxwell was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

On Tuesday, Grace paid the price for one bad inning to lose 10-3 to Webber International. The nine-inning game was scoreless entering the bottom of the fourth.

The Warriors (10-6) tacked on a single run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The seventh inning proved to be Grace's undoing. Webber International plated six times in the bottom of the seventh, and Grace never recovered.

The Lancers made a rally with a three-run outburst in the eighth. Frank Rocchio doubled to score Shay Hepler and Jakob Radjenovich. Austin Green followed with a double on the next at-bat to bring in Rocchio.

But Grace was unable to produce another rally in the ninth. For the game, Hepler had three hits and a run from the leadoff position, and Jamar Bray was a perfect 2-for-2. Xavier Harris and Rocchio notched two hits apiece.

Swartz tossed six innings from the mound, surrendering three runs with five strikeouts as the starter.

The Lancers continue competition on Thursday against Newport Apprentice. Grace will end the week with games versus Trinity International, Penn State Brandywine and Rochester.
