INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After dropping the first game of a doubleheader, Grace Baseball fought back and earned a split at Marian on Thursday.
The Lancers (17-19, 4-10 Crossroads League) dropped the first game 4-0 before prevailing 4-2 in the second game.
Marian took game one thanks to a complete game shutout pitching from Matt Burleton. The Knights (14-21, 4-8 CL) benefitted from a big third inning offensively where they put three runs on the board. Grace's best scoring chance came in the top of the fourth inning, but Marian escaped the inning stranding a Grace runner on third.
Aaron Voirol pitched a complete game in the loss.
In game two, the tide shifted in favor of the Lancers.
Cameron Maxwell led the charge with a two hit and two RBI performance.
The Lancers struck almost immediately thanks to an RBI flyout by
Jamar Bray. The Lancers added to their lead thanks to a Maxwell single in the second inning.
The Lancers also tacked on a run in each of the fourth and sixth innings thanks to RBIs from Maxwell and Matt Warren
Grace took advantage of a solid outing by pitcher
CJ Swartz. Swartz earned the win, pitching six solid innings, and
Wesley Gensch slammed the door shut to earn the save in the 7th. Â
Next up, the Lancers will travel down to Indianapolis on Saturday to face Marian once again for another doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
