MARION, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team was unable to topple perennial power Indiana Wesleyan on Thursday, falling 9-0.
The Lady Lancers (1-1, 1-1 Crossroads League) were outmatched in doubles' play, only winning one game across the three positions. Carrie Copeland and Molly Fitzpatrick lost 1-8 at No. 2 doubles for Grace's best scoreline.
Copeland performed the brightest in singles as well, ultimately falling 2-6, 1-6 at No. 2. Fitpatrick was not far behind her with a 1-6, 1-6 score at No. 4.
Natalia Kurkova at No. 1 and Gabrielle Lawrence at No. 5 each won one game in singles.
"This is probably the best IWU tennis team that I have seen since I've been coaching. They are very skilled, and we had our hand full," said Grace head coach Scott Moore. "I was happy to see the girls battle throughout the games. We have a lot to work on early in the season, but I still think we can be a very good tennis team."
The Lady Lancers will make their home debut on Saturday, facing off against Huntington at 11 a.m. at Miller Field.
