FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Grace's men's tennis team coasted to an 8-1 win over St. Francis on Saturday.
The match was moved indoors to the Wildwood Racquet Club due to inclement weather.
While Grace won all three doubles' points over the Cougars (0-6, 0-5 Crossroads League), they were far from easy matches. Danila Kurkulin and Caleb Yoder battled to a tiebreaker to win 9-8 at No. 1 doubles. Uros Pajic and Gabe Vervynckt at No. 2 and Adam Yoder and Arturo Fonseca at No. 3 won by identical 8-5 scores.
Kurkulin had to go to a tiebreaker in the second set to win at the top singles' position, and Caleb Yoder had to win a tiebreaker in the first set to win at No. 6.
Pajic (No. 2) and Vervynckt (No. 3) each won by 6-2, 6-2 scorelines, and Fonseca cruised to a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 5.
"It was good to bounce back after a tough loss against IWU. We can build some confidence and get back to playing mentally tough tennis," said Grace head coach Larry Schuh.
The Lancers (2-2, 2-1 CL) will head to Spring Arbor on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. match.
