FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team made short work of St. Francis on Saturday in Crossroads League play, winning 7-2.
The match was moved indoors to the Wildwood Racquet Club due to inclement weather.
The Lady Lancers (4-2, 2-2 CL) jumped out to an early lead by winning two of the three doubles' points. Natalia Kurkova and Jenna Jackson battled to an 8-6 win at No. 1, and Carrie Copeland and Molly Fitzpatrick earned an 8-5 victory at No. 2.
The foursome all won in straight sets in singles' play as well. Kurkova claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win at the top singles' spot, and Copeland won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.
Jackson pulled out a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3, and Fitzpatrick beat her opponent at No. 4 by a 6-2, 6-4 scoreline.
Jayna Huber was the final singles' winner for Grace with a 7-6, 6-3 victory at No. 6 over the Cougars (0-4, 0-4 CL).
"This was the most competitive match we've played this season. USF is very well-coached, and there were a lot of points that could have gone either way," said Grace coach Scott Moore. "I love how we played through some tough situations. Spring Arbor will be another tough task next week."
The Lady Lancers will host Spring Arbor on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
