LIMA, Ohio - Grace's volleyball team took on two tough matches at the UNOH Tournament, losing both on Friday.
The Lady Lancers lost to Huntington 3-1 in the first game before narrowly falling 3-2 to the hosts UNOH.
Against the Foresters (5-0), Grace struggled offensively with a .176 percentage.
Sierra Smith led all players with 13 kills. Kelsee Zuidema tallied nine kills with Kari Feddema adding eight. Caylie Teel recorded a team-high 17 digs.
The second match against the host UNOH was nearly a comeback to remember. Grace dropped the first two sets 25-20 and 25-18.
But the Lady Lancers bounced back with an eight-point win in the third set to stay alive. The fourth set was a nailbiter, and Grace converted in the clutch with a 25-23 win to force a tiebreaker. Tori Bontrager provided the winning kill.
The Racers jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the fifth set, but Grace battled back after a well-placed timeout by head coach Katie Van Hofwegen to take an 11-10 lead. Kaitlin Kerrigan and Grace Woolsey had two kills apiece during Grace's spurt.
Grace's momentum ran out soon afterward, however. UNOH broke open a 12-12 tie with three straight points to clinch the match.
Kerrigan produced a double-double in the match with 13 kills and 13 digs to go along with two block assists, and Zuidema also had a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs.
Teel tied a career-high with 28 digs to lead all players. Taylor Baird handed out 28 assists, and Alexa Hill chipped in 15.
The Lady Lancers will end the UNOH Tournament on Saturday with matches against Cumberland and Purdue Northwest.
