WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team was unable to recover from a slow start against Taylor on Tuesday, falling 7-2 at Miller Athletic Complex.
The Lady Lancers (5-3, 3-3 Crossroads League) had their four-match winning streak snapped in a hard-fought battle.
In doubles' play, Grace had a chance in all three matches but ultimately lost them all. Mariah Lewis and Gabrielle Lawrence lost in extra points 9-7 at No. 3 doubles, and Carrie Copeland and Molly Fitzpatrick feel 8-6 at No. 2.
Lawrence and Copeland went on to win in singles' play, but it was not enough to overcome a slow start. Copeland cruised by her opponent 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, and Lawrence battled to a 6-1, 7-6 win at No. 5.
Natalia Kurkova dropped a three-setter at No. 1 singles, and Jenna Jackson and Fitzpatrick also had tough battles at No. 3 and No. 4 singles respectively.
