UPLAND, Ind. - Taylor's tennis team rallied to beat Grace on Wednesday 5-4, securing the comeback win on the strength of two three-setters in singles' play.
The Lancers (3-3, 3-2 Crossroads League) got off to a fast start by claiming two of the three doubles' courts. Danila Kurkulin and Caleb Yoder battled to a tiebreaker to win 9-8 at No. 1 doubles, and Uros Pajic and Gabe Vervynckt won 8-4 at No. 2.
Kurkulin and Pajic continued their strong play with singles' victories. Kurkulin had a 6-1, 6-2 scoreline at No. 1 singles, and Pajic cruised 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2.
The rest of the singles' points went to Taylor, however. Adam Yoder at No. 4 singles and Lucas Fonseca at No. 5 found themselves in dogfights as each match went to a third set. The Trojans (3-4, 3-2 CL) proved to be successful in both spots, clinching the match in comeback fashion.
"This was a tough loss today for us against a good Taylor side. We will use this match to motivate us for the rest of the season, and we will continue to learn how to get tougher at singles," said Grace head coach Larry Schuh.
The Lancers will end the week with a trip down to Marian with first serve slated for 1 p.m.
