HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Grace's men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 setback at Huntington on Wednesday.
The Lancers (7-3-4, 4-1-1 Crossroads League) saw their four-game winning streak snapped and also slipped into second place in the league standings.
Grace's offense was uncharacteristically quiet with just seven shots during the match.
Huntington kept Grace on its back foot in the first half. The Foresters held an 11-2 advantage in shots and went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The Foresters opened the scoring in the 26th minute, capitalizing on miscues by Grace's backline to score on a breakaway.
The second goal for the Foresters (7-3-4, 3-1-2 CL) came three minutes later as a deflected shot took a fortunate bounce for Huntington.
Huntington pulled ahead 3-0 in the 54th minute, finishing off a cross into the box.
Grace began to show signs of a rally midway into the second half. Ulisses Miranda gave the Lancers hope at the 66:09 mark, finishing off a crafty individual effort with a left-footed shot which scored just below the crossbar.
But Grace was unable to build off Miranda's goal. The Foresters held the Lancers to one more shot over the final 24 minutes en route to the final 3-1 scoreline.
As a team, Grace was outshot 14-7. Josiah Osborn had two shots to lead Grace, and Miranda and Cody Boerema had the team's only shots on goal.
The Lancers end the week with a crucial home matchup with No. 22 Spring Arbor, starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Spring Arbor is first in the Crossroads League, less than a game ahead of Grace.
