VERO BEACH, Fla. - A strong day on the mound from freshman David Anderson lifted Grace's baseball team on Monday.
The Lancers defeated Trinity International 3-1 at historic Dodgertown during Grace's spring break trip.
Anderson had the upper hand on Trinity for much of the day. He held the Trojans to just five hits over six innings. He struck out four batters and pitched a shutout through six innings.
Trinity eventually got on the scoreboard with an unearned run in the seventh inning, but Blake Converset came in to record the save on the mound by tossing the final three outs.
Grace scored two in the fourth inning to take the first lead of the game. Xavier Harris led off with a single, and Jamar Bray doubled to right field to bring in Harris. Bray alertly reached third base on a wild patch and scampered home on an error by the Trojans' catcher.
Harris was involved in Grace's third run as well. In the fifth inning, Gavin Bussard singled and advanced to third on a single from Cameron Maxwell. Harris roped a hit to left field to score Bussard and put the Lancers ahead 3-0.
Anderson and Converset took care of the rest, helping the Lancers to their second straight win to start their Florida trip.
The Lancers return to action Tuesday 5 p.m. against West Virginia Tech.
