UPLAND, Ind. - A late-inning push by Taylor undid Grace's baseball team on Friday in a 4-1 defeat.
The Lancers (15-29-1, 7-18 CL) were only outhit 7-5, but Grace struggled to piece together its hits into runs.
The loss also officially eliminates Grace from the postseason Crossroads League Tournament. The season for Grace will end on Saturday with a doubleheader at Taylor, beginning at 6 p.m.
The game was scoreless through four innings. Logan Grigsby kept the Trojans (32-18, 18-7 CL) off the scoreboard and pitched the first six innings of the nine-inning game.
Grace eventually scored first in the top of the fifth. After the first two batters were retired, Cameron Maxwell jumpstarted a rally with a double down the left-field line. Matthew Warren then singled to plate Maxwell for the first run of the game.
Taylor responded with two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to take the lead for good.
Grace had baserunners in each of the last two innings, including a pair of runners in the eighth, but the Lancers came up empty on the scoreboard each time.
Warren, Maxwell, Austin Baker, Gavin Bussard and Chase Baker each had a hit in defeat.
Aaron Voirol pitched the final 1.2 innings of relief, refusing to allow a run.
