NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team improved to 5-0 on the road this year with a 7-2 victory over Manchester.
Thursday's match featured hot temperatures just one day after Grace played another sweltering match in league play.
The Lady Lancers (7-3) got out to an early lead with strong doubles' play. Molly Fitzpatrick and Briana Diehl blanked their opponent at No. 2 doubles with an 8-0 win, and Emily Mast and Jenna Jackson combined for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
Singles' play changed formats due to the heat to an 8-game pro set. Grace went on to win five of the six doubles' courts.
Mast's unbeaten year continued with an 8-2 win at No. 1 singles, and Fitzpatrick was nearly perfect 8-1 at No. 3.
Diehl gutted out a 9-7 victory at No. 5 singles, and Jackson pulled out an 8-5 win at No. 2.
Samantha Meyer earned her first official collegiate victory, winning in impressive fashion 8-3 at No. 6 singles.
"I was proud of our girls for coming out focused today. Today was not easy because of the extremely hot conditions right after a tough conference match yesterday. I'm pleased with our efforts today," said Grace head coach Marcus Moore.
The Lady Lancers continue Crossroads League action on Saturday, hosting Marian at 1 p.m.
