Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Ohio Christian shuts out Lady Lancers

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's women's soccer team took nearly three times as many shots as Ohio Christian, but the only stat that mattered was 1-0.

The Lady Lancers were unable to score and fell 1-0 to Ohio Christian on Tuesday at 1st Source Bank Field.

Grace dominated possession of the ball and fired off 26 shots, including 15 on goal. But a single lapse in the Lady Lancers' defense in the 24th minute gave the Trailblazers the win.

The first half seemed to be going in Grace's favor. Starting in the 14th minute, the Lady Lancers (3-3-3) fired off six shots in a seven-minute span.

The Trailblazers (3-4) capitalized on a counterattack, however, scoring at the 23:16 mark on a goal from Rachel Lawwell. The goal was OCU's second shot on goal of the match; the visitors only had one more shot on goal for the rest of regulation.

Grace had its most dangerous moments from distance as shots from Corinne Villalobos, McKenna Cruz and Autumn Raulerson were denied.

The hosts went into halftime behind despite a 12-4 shot advantage.

In the second half, Grace continued its assault on the Trailblazers' half of the field. The ball remained primarily in Grace's offensive half, and the Lady Lancers ripped off 14 shots in the final 45 minutes.

In the 77th minute, Grace earned a free kick near the top edge of the 18-yard box. Liz Van Wormer took the free kick, but her curling shot was saved.

In the final minutes, the Lady Lancers tried three shots and a corner kick. The corner in the 87th minute produced a low shot to the left post that was saved by OCU's goalkeeper.

The game ended with a 1-0 deficit on the scoreboard for Grace. The Lady Lancers had 15 shots on goal compared to just three for the Trailblazers.

Sacia Hanson and Raulerson tried six shots apiece, Villalobos had five shots, and Van Wormer shot three times.

The Lady Lancers start Crossroads League play on Saturday, traveling to No. 20 Taylor for a 7 p.m. game.
