Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball improves to 3-0

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - A well-balanced evening lifted Grace's men's basketball team to a 66-56 victory at Holy Cross on Tuesday.

Four players scored in double figures in a consistent outing for the Lancers, who improved to 3-0 on the young season.

Grace lead for nearly the entire second half, but the lead over the Saints (2-1) was single digits until the final seconds of regulation.

Holy Cross started the game with a 9-3 advantage, and that proved to be the largest lead of the game for the Saints.

Jaret Sons hit a pair of triples, and Haden Deaton buried another trey to quickly eliminate Holy Cross's lead.

The rest of the first half was tightly contested. Sons buried a late 3-pointer to end the half, putting Grace on top 31-28 at halftime.

Grace shot 46 percent from the floor compared to 38 percent for Holy Cross in the opening half.

Logan Godfrey scored six points early in the second half, and the Lancers climbed ahead by eight.

The Saints battled back and tied the game at 47-47 with 9:46 left. Godfrey single-handedly propelled the Lancers ahead with seven straight points.

Grace's defense took care of the rest. The Saints mustered only five points over the final 6:33 of regulation, and the Lancers slowly pulled away.

Charlie Warner hit a timely triple down the stretch, and Braxton Linville scored on back-to-back plays to help build Grace's cushion in the last minutes.

Godfrey earned scoring honors on the night with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals, and Sons added 15 points, 6 boards and 2 assists. Sons shot 3-for-7 from beyond the arc.

Warner scored 12 points, Haden Deaton tallied 10 points and five rebounds, Linville added 4 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, and Eddie Gill IV chipped in five points and two assists.

The Lancers will put their undefeated record on the line over the weekend, taking on Concordia and Emmaus on Friday and Saturday at the Trinity International Tournament in Illinois.
