WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Grace's baseball team finally got to stretch their legs in the sun on its Spring Break outing to Winter Haven, Fla.
The Lancers played nine games in the Sunshine State, nearly all of which were close. Grace was unable to come away with a win.
Six of the nine games were decided by three or fewer runs. Grace faced off against Rochester, Trinity Baptist and IU South Bend in single-game series, and they also played a doubleheader against Cornerstone, Lourdes and Aquinas.
Five players for Grace topped .300 from the plate, led by a .455 performance by Gabe Douglass. Mitchell Enyart hit .375, Cameron Maxwell had a .368 average, Xavier harris batted .308, and Houston Haney was .304 as a freshman.Â
Haney and Hunter Ackerman each plated a team-high seven times. William Swisher led the squad with seven RBIs and three doubles, and Jaron Mullett tied for the team lead with seven hits.
From the mound, Scottie Clark excelled with a 2.70 ERA in three appearances. He struck out 11 batters and only surrendered three earned runs. Aaron Voirol struck out 10 batters in 11 innings of work, and Josh Tew was effective in 10 innings.
The Lancers kick off the Crossroads League season at home over the weekend. Grace host St. Francis for a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
