HUNTINGTON, Ind. - Grace's women's tennis team tasted defeat for the first time this year.
The Lady Lancers dropped a marathon match by a 5-4 decision at Huntington on Wednesday.
The match, which lasted close to six hours due to a prolonged men's match before, came down to the wire.
The Foresters (3-1, 2-1 Crossroads League) won the final singles' match in the third set after 10 p.m. to secure the 5-4 victory. Carrie Copeland and Molly Fitzpatrick claimed an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, and Jayna Armstrong and Morgan Mast also won 8-2.
The freshman duo of Armstrong and Mast were the only Lady Lancers to win in singles. Armstrong battled in three sets at No. 4 by the score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2), and Mast pulled out a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 6.
The Lady Lancers (3-1, 2-1 CL) will look to bounce back on Friday at 3 p.m. with a match at Spring Arbor.
