NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Head coach Sarah Harman started her career as Grace's softball coach with a sweep of IU Southeast on Monday.

The Lady Lancers won 5-2 and 5-1 on the road to start the 2019 campaign.

Sam Heim and Erin Lawhon were electric on the mound as both hurlers threw complete games in the doubleheader.

Heim was the player of the game in the opener, winning the game from the mound and at the plate. She allowed just one earned run to score in seven innings to pick up her first pitching victory.

From the leadoff position, Heim was lethal. She batted 3-of-4 with three runs scored, outscoring the Grenadiers (4-4) by herself. 

Heim singled on the first at-bat of the season and quickly moved to third. Jessica Kaurich then lofted a sacrifice fly ball to center which allowed Heim to plate.

In the second inning Heim tripled to score Andrea Castillo and then scored on a fielding error. She scored her third run in the fifth inning with a single, sacrifice bunt from Emily Bobb and then a long fly ball by Olivia Scarbrough.

Kaurich enjoyed a strong offensive game in her collegiate debut, driving in two runs with a double, and Castillo hit 1-for-3 with a run scored.

In the second game, Lawhon stymied IU Southeast. Lawhon surrendered just one run on four hits, striking out four batters in another complete game performance.

The Lady Lancers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after five innings. Morgan Tapscott struck first for Grace in the second inning. She hit a leadoff double and was moved to third after a bunt by Kaurich.

Tapscott then came home after a wild pitch for the game's first run.

In the fifth inning, Grace plated three more. With two outs and two runners on base, Scarbrough singled to bring in Taylor Asher and Heim. Tapscott doubled on the next at-bat to score Scarbrough.

In the top of the seventh, Kaurich added an insurance run with an RBI double to bring in Tapscott.

Lawhon took care of the rest, allowing one hit in each of the final three innings to secure the victory.

Tapscott batted 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs and 1 RBI, and Scarbrough was 1-of-4 with a run and two RBIs.

Natalie Klingberg, Heim and Kaurich each hit 1-for-2, and Asher had a stolen base and a run scored.

The Lady Lancers are prepared for their spring break trip next week in Clermont, Fla. Grace will play 10 games in Florida.
