WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The magical season continued for Grace's women's tennis team with a 6-1 victory over Taylor on Thursday.
The Lady Lancers stretched their perfect record to 8-0, extending their program record for best start. Grace sits at 7-0 in the Crossroads League with just two league matches remaining. Grace has already secured a home game in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament in October.
The match started with singles' play, and Grace won in straight sets at the four lower courts.
Dayana Ortega cruised 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, and Morgan Mast won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5.
Shelby Bankson (7-5, 6-2) at No. 6 singles and Jayna Armstrong (6-1, 7-6) at No. 4 also picked up wins.
Emily Mast battled to a three-set victory at No. 1 singles by the score of 6-0, 6-7 (5), 10-6.
Ortega and Emily Mast teamed up for a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles, and Carrie Copeland and Armstrong also blanked their opponent at No. 2.
Morgan Mast and Gretchen Adams finished off the doubles' sweep with a 6-2 win at No. 3.
Grace's current winning streak of eight games is one shy of the all-time record for the Lady Lancers (nine straight, 2008 and 2009).
The Lady Lancers will head to Michigan this weekend for a flighted tournament at Hope College.
