MARION, Ind. - The record start for Grace's women's tennis team ended on Tuesday with a 7-0 defeat to No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan.

The Lady Lancers (8-1, 7-1 Crossroads League) tasted defeat for the first time this year; Grace's 8-0 record represented the best start in program history.

The loss sets up another important match next week. Grace will host No. 25 Marian on Sept. 24 in what likely will determine the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds in the conference standings.

"We came out strong and looked good in doubles. However we missed some opportunities and didn't finish key points down the stretch," said Grace head coach Marcus Moore. "Credit to IWU because they were dialed in. They're a tough team as always. We need to reset and get ready for ITAs because I know we have a chance to make some noise against quality players."

Grace looked dangerous as the match started in doubles. Emily Mast and Dayana Ortega narrowly lost 5-7 at the top doubles' court. Carrie Copeland and Jayna Armstrong also lost by the same score at No. 2 doubles. Morgan Mast and Gretchen Adams dropped a 3-6 match at No. 3 doubles.

The Wildcats (11-0, 8-0 CL) were convincing in singles' play, winning each of the six matches in straight sets.
