Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lancers earn 2-2 draw against Foresters

WINONA LAKE, Ind.- Grace's men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with Huntington on Saturday night.

The Lancers held a 2-0 lead in the second half, but were unable to survive a late push from the Foresters and settled for the draw.

Daniel Santos Rosa and Martim Sequeira both scored for Grace and Matteo Conci made two saves in the start.

Grace started the game with a flurry of chances. The Lancers had the game's first five shots including a header from Kyle Holwerda which forced a brilliant save from the Foresters' goalkeeper.

Huntington's only real offensive opportunities from the first half came on a pair of corner kicks near the middle portion of the opening 45 minutes.

Grace drove the offensive pace, but continued to be thwarted by Huntington's back line.

The deadlock was finally broken after Felipe Gruber fed a pass to Santos Rosa who finished with a well placed ball that sailed in just under the crossbar.

The Lancers nearly doubled their lead late in the half when a fast counter attack ended with Scanferlato Simone having his shot stopped short of the goal by the outstretched hands of the Huntington goalie.

At the half Grace seemed to be in total control, out shooting Huntington 9-3 and holding all of the dangerous scoring chances.

The Lancers attacked the start of the second half with the same ferocity as the first and soon were awarded a penalty kick after Sequeira was denied a sure fire scoring chance.

The ensuing PK was denied by Huntington's goalie, but Sequeira found his marker just five minutes later.

Simone played a perfect ball into the box off of a corner kick and Sequeira blasted in his 12th goal of the season to put Grace ahead 2-0 with 25 minutes left.

Just a minute after falling behind 2-0, Huntington scored their first of the game and cut Grace's lead in half.

The Foresters almost found the equalizer with 15 minutes remaining, as the ball took an awkward bounce toward goal that Conci was forced to punch clear.

Grace was unable to survive Huntington's late push however, as the Foresters drew even after a well executed set piece resulted in a ball that was just beyond Conci's reach.

After surrendering the equalizer the Lancers regained their form and pressed hard over the final eight minutes. Grace tried six shots as the final minutes ticked away, but were unable to find the go-ahead goal and settled for the 2-2 draw.

For the Game Grace out shot Huntington 17-6.

With the result, the Lancers are in second place in the Crossroads League, four points behind Bethel.

Grace will have another home match on Wednesday at 7 p.m. as they host Goshen, before traveling to Bethel next Saturday in a match that will have huge implications for the Crossroads League standings.
