Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Balanced scoring lifts Grace over Eagles

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - A balanced performance lifted Grace's women's basketball team to its third win of the season.

The Lady Lancers defeated Asbury 80-66 on Friday in the Val Weinstein Classic. The game was played in memory of the late Val Weinstein, a member of Grace's Hall of Fame and a longtime supporter of the program.

Asbury began the game well, scoring the first six points of the game.

Grace was not worried, rattling off 15 unanswered points to surge ahead. By the end of the quarter, the Lady Lancers led 21-13, led by six points from Kiersten Findley.

Grace's offense continued to sizzle in the second quarter as the team poured in 24 points in the period.

Asbury did its best to match Grace's output, but the Lady Lancers still held a 45-32 lead at halftime.

Grace shot 55 percent from the floor as a team and 73 percent (8 of 11) on 3-pointers. Nine Lady Lancers scored in the half, led by Jenna Blakley's eight points.

But Grace also committed 14 turnovers, leading to 13 points for the Eagles.

The Lady Lancers scored the first nine points of the second half as Grace extended their lead to 22 points.

Grace shot 44 percent in the fourth quarter as the Lady Lancers' maintained a 20-point lead throughout the third frame.

Asbury shot 47 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter as they tried to close the deficit. Karlee Feldman thwarted every attempt however as she double-doubled in the fourth quarter alone. She had 12 points and 10 rebounds as Grace closed out the 80-66 win.

Feldman double-doubled for the third time this season with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Feldman was one of three Lady Lancers to score in double-digits in the game. Blakley scored 14 and Peyton Murphy added 11 points of her own.

Grace was clinical with their ball movement on offense, as they had 19 assists on 29 made baskets.

"This was another great outing from our team," said Grace coach Dan Davis. "We showed that we can win in a multitude of ways. Our 3-point percentage and ball movement was outstanding today. Really excited for these next few weeks."

The Lady Lancers are home twice next week, including Tuesday against Judson and Saturday against Spring Arbor in the Crossroads League opener.
