Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Grace enjoys goalfest vs Trailblazers

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Grace's women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-0 rout of Ohio Christian on Saturday.

The Lady Lancers used two goals and an assist from JJ Aalbue and two more goals from Madison Tuma in the emphatic victory at 1st Source Bank Field.

Grace had no shortage of scoring chances in the opening minutes, including close-range efforts from Aalbue, Lea Moessinger and Janni Bettin.

Grace owned control of the match, keeping the Trailblazers pinned into their end of the field throughout the 90 minutes.

The Lady Lancers peppered OCU with 10 shots over the first 15 minutes.

The first goal of the match came 17 minutes into the contest. Moessinger made a weaving run toward OCU's penalty box, then cleverly slipped a pass into Tuma.

Tuma took care of the rest, calmly slotting her shot into the net.

The second goal from Grace was a rocket. Danae Moriarty crossed into the box, and Janni Bettin touched a pass to Aalbue. Aalbue left no doubt, blasting her shot past the goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead.

Grace's third goal came in the 39th minute. Sam Vondersaar's cross connected with Danae Moriarty, who headed the ball into the back of the net.

The match went into halftime with Grace ahead 3-0. The Lady Lancers had a dominant 19-1 advantage in shots and also had the only six corner kicks of the half.

It took Grace less than a minute to score again in the second half. The Trailblazers fouled Grace from 40 yards away from goal. Aalbue stepped up and sent a free kick laser past the goalkeeper's gloves to improve Grace's lead to four.

Not long after, Grace found its fifth goal. Aalbue skipped a pass wide to Kailey Burrell, and Burrell's cross was finished by Filipa Marques.

Grace's sixth goal was another header. Luna Gianotti skipped past a defender and sent a cross into the box, and Tuma thumped her headed effort in for her second goal.

The seventh and final goal was an individual effort from a freshman. Simone Castaneda dribbled by a pair of defenders and sent a 23-yard shot beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.

Grace finished the game with 34 shots while holding OCU to just one attempt. The Lady Lancers also owned 10 corner kicks compared to one for the Trailblazers.

Libby Stratton and Sofia Lerro combined for the goalkeeping shutout, needing just one save between them. They were protected well by defenders Amber Meade, Kimberly Aalbue, Gianotti, Erin Crew, Lucy Schmitt and Megan DeBoest.

The Lady Lancers are back home next week on Saturday, playing host to West Virginia Tech at 7 p.m.
