HUNTINGTON, Ind. - A five-set thriller went against Grace's volleyball team on Friday as Huntington won 3-2.
Grace impressed offensively with 70 kills on a .236 percentage while Huntington had 49 kills. But the Foresters' blocking presence impressed with 13 block points.
A few players had career-high performances, including 24 kills from Cassadi Colbert and 60 assists from Riley Owens.
In the opening set, the teams could scarcely be separated. The teams traded point after point and incredibly tied each other's score 17 times.
The score was tied for the 17th and final time at 22-22, but HU ended the set with three straight points to win 25-22.
Grace was not fazed and responded well over the next two sets. In the second set, the fiercely fought battle continued. The score was tied at 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, 21 and 22.
Jadyn Ross stepped up late to provide a pair of timely kills, including the final kill to give Grace the set at 25-22.
In the third set, the Lady Lancers scored seven of the first nine points thanks to two kills apiece from Ross and Livia Tate. Grace never surrendered its lead and won 25-21 to pull ahead in the match.
Continuing the trend of the match, the fourth set was another battle. HU had a three-point edge late, but Grace rallied in front at 24-23 and served for match point.
But the Foresters survived, pulling off three straight points to win 26-24 and force a fifth set.
In the tiebreaker, the Foresters jumped ahead early with a 5-2 lead. HU still led by four at the midway point at 9-4, and Grace was unable to rally and lost by eight.
Colbert led all players with 24 kills, and Livia Tate had 13 kills on a .320 percentage.
Sahara Bee tallied 12 kills on a .333 percentage, and Ross added a double-double with 12 kills, 11 digs and 2 aces.
Owens amassed a career-high 60 assists to go along with eight digs, and Katie Swanson had six kills.
The Lady Lancers remain on the road on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match at Goshen.
