WINONA LAKE, Ind. – For the second time this season, Grace's men's tennis team swept Saint Francis 7-0. With the win, the Lancers (9-0) advance to the semifinal of the conference tournament.
The home team jumped all over the Cougars from the opening set to extend their unbeaten streak to nine.
All three doubles pairings dominated to take the early 1-0 lead.
Javier Gallego and
Facundo Paredes led off the day with a 6-1 rout.
Pablo Gregori and
Salva Pons clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 triumph of their own.
Francisco Margaria and
Artur Pons continued the win parade with a 6-2 scoreline at No. 2 doubles.
Singles play was more of the same. The Lancers kept the pedal down with all six matches being won in straight sets and without dropping more than two games in a set.
The first point was secured with Paredes leading 6-1, 4-0 and his opponent being forced to retire from the match.
Pablo Gregori didn't give up a game in his 6-0, 6-0 rout to add another point at No. 3 singles.
Gallego, Margaria and
Salva Pons each won by the same 6-1, 6-1 scoreline to clinch the match for the 17th-ranked Lancers.
Artur Pons concluded the day with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph to make it a clean sweep.
Grace advances to the semifinal round and will host Bethel on Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. with a berth to the conference final on the line.
